Terms of Service

Last updated: September 10, 2026

These terms govern your use of Secure Chat (the "service") — a private, end-to-end encrypted messaging app operated as a free personal project for family and friends. By creating an account you agree to them.

1. The service

Secure Chat provides encrypted messaging, media sharing, and voice/video calls. It is offered free of charge, "as is", for personal and non-commercial use. There are no uptime guarantees: the service may be slow, changed, interrupted, or discontinued at any time.

2. Your device holds the keys

Because the service is end-to-end encrypted, your private keys and message history exist only on your devices. We cannot recover your messages, keys, or history if you lose your device or erase the app. Keep your sign-in email accessible — that is the only way to sign in again.

3. Acceptable use

We may suspend or delete accounts that violate these rules. (We cannot read message contents to police this — enforcement relies on reports and server-side abuse signals such as spam patterns.)

4. Your content

You keep all rights to content you send. You give other recipients (and only them) the ability to receive and store it — that's the whole point of messaging. You are responsible for what you send and for having the right to share it.

5. Calls and media

Calls connect directly between devices where possible and use bandwidth from your data plan. Large files (up to 100 MB) and old media are automatically removed from the server after roughly 30 days; keep your own copies of anything you want to keep.

6. No warranty

The service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or reliable delivery. Encryption is implemented carefully and using well-reviewed protocol designs, but no system can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of this service is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, messages, or profits arising from use of — or inability to use — the service.

8. Termination

You may stop using the service and request account deletion at any time (in-app "Report a problem" or email). We may suspend accounts for abuse or if keeping the service running for everyone requires it.

9. Changes

These terms may be updated as the service evolves. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms; material changes will be signalled in the app.

10. Contact

Questions: use "Report a problem" inside the app, or email [email protected].
